Burma and Ethnic Minorities will Discuss Truce .

Ethnic groups in Burma completing major conference in Laiza , a town in northern Burma , with a promise to come together to discuss a ceasefire with the government .

   
The three- day conference , attended by representatives of 17 ethnic groups , was held at the headquarters of the Kachin Independence Organization ( KIO ) , the political branch of the main groups of ethnic Kachin rebels .Delegates will attend a variety of ethnic groups truce talks with the government next week . National government , which was not invited to the meeting of ethnic groups , hoping to sign a comprehensive nationwide ceasefire in December.Khun Okkar , Secretary of the umbrella group United Nationalities Federation Council , told the conference resolution calling for the possibility of a new agreement with the government to replace the agreement between the individual and the national government .Burma's various ethnic minority groups for decades battling the national government and the majority reached an unofficial truce with the military in recent years . Wa ethnic group , one of the ethnic minorities of Burma's most influential , did not receive an invitation to attend a meeting of the ethnic groups .In a meeting in Laiza , the delegation also discussed the strategy encourages national constitutional amendment that would give greater autonomy to each state . But no progress has been reported on this issue .
