Actor Josh Holloway finds his dancing feet as a B-boy in 3D movie Battle of the Year

THE DANCE moves in his latest movie left Josh Holloway feeling a little lost.
Josh Holloway has had a computer chip implanted in his brain to play a secret agent in TV series Intelligence (which debuts in the US next year).
The actor, best known for playing Sawyer for six years in TV series Lost, reckons that's rather ironic, given he's basically "computer illiterate".
The affable Californian was also out of his element on the feature film Battle of the Year.
The 3D movie centres on a team of B-boys aiming to bring a breakdancing trophy back to the US after a long dry spell.
Holloway takes on a new battle
"I was not up to speed, I can tell you right now," Holloway laughs. "I loved it in the '80s - I was on the basketball team in high school and they were all breakdancers or B-boys.
"But I was still back in the '80s, thinking I'm gonna see some boppin' and lockin' and moonwalkin'. Noooooo ... it's evolved quite a bit."
Holloway's character in Battle of the Year is a basketball coach who hit the skids after losing his family in a car wreck.
"So it's the marriage of a sports story, like a Friday Night Lights, mixed with dance."
In the Lost years, Holloway was a regular on "sexiest man" lists. While he takes such things with good humour, he didn't feel particularly sexy on the Battle of the Year set.
"It's more pressure now as I'm getting older and working with guys who are 25 and ripped, doing amazing dance moves. I'm like, 'I'm gonna be over here, at the coffee stand ...'
"The most intimidating part was the first day of rehearsals because I'm coming in with all these B-boys that are bad-asses, they've all got attitude and they're like, 'Who's this?' I'm like, 'Ahhh ... what's up, y'all?'
"I had dreams of dancing in this movie until I saw them dance, then I was like, 'Oh no, that's Olympic level', so I put that dream away."
Holloway countered the intimidation factor by quickly hitting the young bucks up with his best "coach's speech".
"Everything changed from that moment - they became my team and I was the coach."
Holloway, 44, has been with his wife, Yessica, for about 17 years. The couple have a four-year-old daughter and another child on the way. He says the "sexiest man" thing is comedy in their household - "She's like, 'You're my trophy!'"
But, when Battle of the Year director Benson Lee says he almost didn't give Holloway the role because he was "too good looking", you have to wonder if looks have had a big impact on his career.
"It does limit people's perception of me, I guess. I'm a diverse person, I can go in a lot of directions, but people tend to put me in one spot.
"It is what it is. If you're Shaq, you're probably not going to be a point guard. Your package is what you're given, and you work within those parameters and try to break free as much as you can. So that's what I do."
Since Lost, Holloway's other problem has been finding jobs that are sufficiently fulfilling.
"I always say I'm playing chess because you have to be patient. You have to really wait for roles. Especially after working on a show that was so creatively fulfilling - Lost set a high bar."......READ MORE
