In
the seventh century and eighth Islam is growing very rapidly ,
especially in Baghdad during the reign of Harun Al- Rashid and his son ,
Al- Ma'mun . Baghdad is a city of cosmopolitan , beautiful and sparkling . Population reaches two million people from all over the country . Yet at the same time , in the capital of the Byzantine Roman Empire population is only 600,000 people. Moreover, Paris and London are still in the form of small villages that slum population is far from many .
At that time , in Baghdad has developed modern medical science . Hospitals, many hospitals have established and equipped with qualified medical personnel . Even from the few books that I read of civilization , it is said that at that time in Baghdad's hospitals have implemented separate spaces for each different diseases . People in Baghdad already know about infectious diseases . While in Roman Byzantine or Paris and London , all the ills that befall citizens are still on the hook - hook with jinns and devils curse . Then it is only natural that there , when ill , residents will be asked to kneel in church and pray all day expecting healing .
If the evening , Baghdad is a city of gleaming and brightly lit . Trade and economic life there and keep going until late . While in Roman Byzantine or Paris and London , the opposite happened . At night there are the nights are dead , are not allowed out of the house because they believe in demons and jinn could interfere with them anytime .
Of course there are many more striking difference between Baghdad and the Byzantine or Roman Paris and London . Of science such as astronomy , mathematics , geography , philosophy , and literature . Because of the rapid advancement of science in Baghdad , to the extent that there is no one way that its contents are a bookstore with a collection of books which are many and varied .
The question then is , how can a country Baghdad became so advanced and developed than the Roman Byzantine ? Then , if we already know the key to progress Baghdad , can we apply it in Indonesia ?
I think , of some civilization books I've read, the advance of civilization in Baghdad in the seventh century and the eighth is because Islam upholds science . Even the Prophet to say that the ink of the scholars , far more valuable than the blood of martyrs . Islam also reported that people who have knowledge will be exalted rank some degree . Even the learned and teach it has only one degree below the degree level of prophethood . Incredible .
Paper . The invention of paper is the most crucial findings on the progress of the Islamic civilization . It could be said that Islam is the second after the Chinese civilization that can make paper . This happens when Islam seized control of China which is ruled by a tyrant , there was a prisoner who could make paper and teach it to the Muslims . Since then , the sciences were previously written on animal skins that expensive , the technology becomes cheaper paper . Since then the book industry into a promising industry until now .
In addition to the paper , the most amazing thing is the movement menejemahkan all scientific books into Arabic by the Sultan Harun Al Rashid and Al Ma'mun followed by the sultan . Even on one of the war victory , Sultan Al Ma'mun had not asked for the spoils of war to the loser , he just said , " Let us translate all the books in the royal library " . Extraordinary , science is much more valuable than gold and treasure .
By translating scientific books into their language , Arabic language , then all people ranging from farmers , merchants , scholars , to housewives can also enjoy it , can absorb knowledge .
Compare with our country ! Now , many books on the market are still allowed to speak English . It makes science can only be enjoyed by the upper middle class who usually have better English skills . While farmers and traders in traditional markets would not have been able to read it .
Ouch , let alone farmers and traders in the market , even students also sometimes haltingly reading a thick book defines and meticulous English . Boring read .
Now , we know that the key to success of a nation to progress and develop is directly proportional to the knowledge he absorbed . Hopefully there is a real movement to translate all the scientific books into Indonesian . Amen .
