Saudi Arabia rejected the council office contents

New York : Saudi Arabia on Tuesday ( 12/11 ) local time , formally rejected a two -year term on the Security Council (UNSC ) UN . Rejection is not unprecedented that also affect pave the way for Jordan to fill the seat as his successor .
Of the previous middle east countries have criticized the ineffectiveness of the UN Security Council consisting of 15 members in addressing the world's problems , especially the Syrian crisis and the Palestinian - Israeli conflict .


In a letter on Tuesday ( 12/11 ) of Saudi Arabia's Permanent Representative to the UN in New York , Ambassador Abdallah Al - Mouallimi officially informed the world body .The action came after Saudi Arabia's Foreign Ministry issued a statement on October 18 , who declined the position on the UNSC , a day after the UN General Assembly - with 193 members - chose the country for a period of two years starting January 1 .
"The Government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has decided to convey to regret not occupy his seat in the Security Council , although Saudi Arabia selected on October 17, 2013 for the term of 2014-2015 , " according to the letter .
Analysts believe the decision was not only boycott but the Security Council addressed to the United States , his old ally , because of the inability of the country to negotiate a solution to the Palestinian - Israeli conflict and because Washington did not intervene in a civil war in Syria .
More than 100,000 people have been killed in the battle for more than 30 months in Syria .
Jordan , which has a border with Israel , has a strong interest in ending the Palestinian conflict by Israel . Amman also has a border with Syria and has become one of the main objectives of refugees - who fled the civil war in Syria .
The U.S. is one of the veto-wielding permanent members on the UN Security Council along with Britain , France , Russia and China . Five members of the 15 - member council is elected for a term of two years.
