Saudi Arabia officially rejected a UN Security Council seat

New York - Saudi Arabia officially refused seat in the UN Security Council , Tuesday, November 12, 2013 , local time . Rejection was conveyed through a letter to the UN Secretary General , Ban Ki -moon .
Previously , the struggle for voting Arabia won a non-permanent member seat in the Security Council last October . However , the country 's royal ultimately rejected that position as a form of protest against the attitude of the Security Council in dealing with the Syrian conflict .
" With all due respect , I submit to you that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia decided to reject the seats they are entitled to as a member of the UN Security Council , " said the Saudi Arabian Ambassador to the UN , Abdullah al - Mouallimi , in which a copy of a letter received by Agence France - Presse .
Saudi Arabia's Foreign Ministry has previously expressed his rejection because he considers the UNSC fails to take action against Syria conflict that has to take place 32 months . Saudi government explains , the 15-member Security Council deadlocked on the issue of Syria .
