EVERYONE was expecting Miley Cyrus
to do something outrageous at the American Music Awards, but it turned
out to be her usually squeaky-clean pop rival who did the offending.
Katy Perry raised plenty of eyebrows as she opened up the ceremony at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles with a culturally insensitive, Japanese-themed performance of Unconditionally,
which featured the singer dressed as a Geisha. Within minutes, fans and
viewers were accusing her of cultural appropriation with one Twitter
user commenting "This is the performance equivalent of an offensive
Halloween costume."
