Appearing on the cover of Harper's Bazaar in two gorgeous
dresses, Kate Hudson reveals she "can't afford to buy" all the
expensive red carpet gowns she wears
A-list celebrities may appear to have it all, but as Kate
Hudson reveals in the December/January issue of Harper's
Bazaar (on stands Nov. 26), those appearances can be deceiving. The Something
Borrowed actress, 34, looks incredible on the magazine's subscriber's cover
in a glittering purple and red sequined Givenchy by Riccardo Tisci gown with a
plunging neckline -- but that gown, like many others Hudson has rocked in the
past, is just a loan.
"People think we own all these dresses, but we borrow
them!" she explains of her stunning red carpet style. "I can't afford
to buy that stuff. There are certain things I splurge on, but it's very rare,
especially when you have two kids and school tuition."
(The Oscar nominee has a 9-year-old son, Ryder, from
her marriage to first husband Chris Robinson, as well as a 2-year-old
son, Bingham, with fiance Matthew Bellamy.)
"I'm not a big high-end fashion shopper," she
confesses. "I wish I could, but the truth is, things are just so
expensive. Before [designer] Isabel Marant was a million dollars and famous, I
used to go to her store in Paris and go crazy, it was so affordable."

The actress, who also showcases her slim bod in a
cleavage-baring Lanvin dress for the magazine's newsstand cover, says she
learned from her mother, Goldie
Hawn, to spend money wisely. "My mom wasn't a big shopper for
us," Hudson shares. "I think [she] wanted to instill that in us even
though we grew up in a really privileged and lucky lifestyle."
Now that she's older, the engaged star has a family of her
own to raise. "I'm loving becoming an adult," she gushes.
Another thing she loves? Staying active. "It really is
a vital part of my day in terms of energy," she tells Harper's Bazaar
of regular exercise. "And I mean just by putting a sports bra on. Then
maybe you'll do something! Even if it's a few squats in the backyard and back
to the couch."
